Girls Empowerment Camp
Fire Chief Brian Fennessy has continued to express his vision of having a fully staffed, diverse workforce. Attracting and retaining the best requires dedication and long-term planning. A significant part of OCFA's recruitment plan involves developing and implementing programs that promote the attraction and hiring of qualified and diverse candidates. Chief Fennessy believes that empowering and mentoring our youth is one key to success in gender equity and workforce diversity.
To help make this vision a reality, the Girls Empowerment Camp is held annually as a no-cost, two-day camp open to teens aged 14-18. The camp introduces participants to the fire service and provides them with a realistic, hands-on overview of firefighting. The camp exposes the teens to all aspects of a fire service career and the essential requirements of being a firefighter. The program also empowers campers with life skills and professional guidance, encouraging them to pursue a career in public safety. The camp features six hands-on stations, including Ropes and Knots, CPR/First Aid, Aerial Ladder Climb, Confidence Course, Roof Prop, and Hose Handling. Your donation is also used to provide participants with an OCFA/GEC t-shirt, hat, water bottle, and backpack.
